What is the AADDF?
AADDF is an acronym for the Atlanta African Dance and Drum Festival. This festival is an
annual festival put together to educate people on the scope of African dance and drum. The
Festival includes dance and drum classes from Africa and the Diaspora.
Why is the Festival being offered? Why Atlanta?
The Festival is being offered to give people in the Atlanta Metro area as well as the east coast
and the southern US, the opportunity to experience African (Guinea/Mali/Ivory
coast/Nigerian/Senegambian) and Haitian dance and drum and cultural. Atlanta is one of the
most culturally diverse cities in the US. It is an excellent host for a festival such as this.
Who should attend?
The conference is attended by all African dancers on the east coast and in the south east,
primarily. It will be promoted on the west coast and in the Caribbean.
Why should people attend? (e.g. what's in it for me to register/attend?)
AADDF has been blessed to have some very talented teachers from around the world that
teach at the Festival. The environment is very family-friendly as well. All who attend enjoy
themselves.
What will participants experience at the conference? What will they learn?
Participants will learn a variety of dance, song and music from each of the participating
countries. Participants will also have a chance to learn some history about many of the dances
as well.
Who are the featured performers/instructors/entertainment?
We have not finalized the full teachers list. We do have some artists confirmed, though.
Djeneba Saho (Mali Dance), Djian Tie (Ivory Coast dance), Fofie Akoto (Ivory Coast Dance),
Weddie Braimah (djembe drum), Eric Gore (Ivory coast drum), Charisse Williams (Orisa
dance), Tambra Harris (Haitian Dance), Moussa Traore (Mali drum)
What are the highlights for this year's event?
Still in the process of working on some highlights for this year. They may include a concert on
the Saturday night.
What is the cost of the event?
Advance tickets for the class are $12 each. Groups can pay $10 per class. The on-site class
cost is $15
Who are the sponsors? Are you requesting sponsors/contributors?
We don’t have any sponsors lined up yet. We will seek sponsors (business, local dance
companies, individuals, etc)
What were some of the comments from last year's participants?
Very good festival. Very enjoyable. Mostly good comments. Many want to attend this year too.
Why should I support AADDF?
The festival is a very good experience. Men, women and children can participate. They will
have the chance to learn from very talented teachers from around the African diaspora.
Who is hosting the conference?
Afrikan Djeli Cultural Institute is the conference host.
